shit i hate this new way of preregistration crap we've started here. i think it's more like yours now, cgal. :( it's a mad scramble for 300-level courses!!! i hate it!!! i'm stuck w/ stuff i didn't really want!!! :( i doubt the add/drop period is gonna be very lucky for me, either.
so i got back from CT at around 8:30 a.m. and was in class falling asleep to a lecture about "sensibility" (hahahahaha...the irony) an hour later.
it was an interesting trip.
it was cool to visit connecticut, since i doubt i'll ever have a reason to go there ever again in my life. gilmore girls episodes can be a little misleading though when it comes to hartford.
what was funny was that the girls i went w/ hadn't booked a hotel for sunday night, so we ended up driving around to random places looking for a place to stay...and later we discovered that the 2nd place we tried (the 1st was waaay too expensive) was where the co-headliner of the show, an "eh" band called maroon 5 ended up staying! i saw their tour bus and attached u-haul parked beside the place. it was funny b/c the band's manager and whatnot were part of the reason we didn't end up staying there...the girls thought they were freaky when they saw 'em in the lobby. i think they thought they were drug dealers or something. they were also kinda sketched out about motels, 'cause for some reason they think ppl only get killed in those kinds of lodgings. suuure.
soo...we ended up going to this other place called the "park inn" instead, and the next morning we look out the window and see another tour bus w/ a u-haul attached to the back in the parking lot! i was like, "how many bands are having concerts in hartford?! geez!" then we see toca getting into it. so it was mraz & co's tour bus. what are the odds?!? :D they were actually staying at the days inn right next to us.
after we checked out, we wandered around and got lost in hartford for a bit and then headed back to the mcdonalds near the hotel for food, and who do we see getting stuff to-go? none other than mraz himself. i think he thought we were stalking him somehow. it was honestly all just a coincidence though. i don't think he remembers me at all (at least he didn't let on that he did) and the girls needed to jog his memory a bit to remind him of who they were (and they last saw him in april--the last time i talked to him was in january). guess his memory isn't as good as i thought. that's actually sorta reassuring.
this time i actually noticed that he's about a head taller than me. he told us that they hadn't slept much the night before 'cause they were partying in the bus, and we should've joined them. riiight. he also said the days inn hotel was kinda freaky. we then wished him a happy b-day and let him go on his way to some radio interview.
we went shopping at some mall in west hartford (got my copy of hail to the thief w/out copy-protection stuff--haha!--the states is apparently the only place that doesn't have it on their discs) and then we lounged around in the nice park in the middle of the city by the pond. lots of babies/cute kids, dogs and birds to watch. i did a bit of my boring restoration lit reading.
crissandra--are you _sure_ torquil wrote in the issue of SPIN mag w/ thom yorke on the cover? 'cause i have it and don't see an article by him anywhere. you sure you're not confusing it w/ chart mag from a few months ago w/ raine on the cover? i've got that one already. he interviewed k-os.
the show itself was pretty good. the opener was "eh" and the place was filled w/ freaky little underaged girls (i think it was supposed to be a 16+ show though...), but mraz's voice was quite "on." the set was pretty short though--i think maybe 1.5 hrs? and no encore! i guess it's 'cause he was co-headlining and maroon 5 went on afterwards (we didn't watch). the guys from m5 came on stage during mraz's set and brought out a cake for him, and they threw pieces of it out at the audience afterwards. iiintereesting. i heard mraz came out at the end of their set w/ a bottle of champagne and he played the tambourine or something. he was probably real damned wasted by then.
we had these annoying little bitch girls standing in front of us (actually, there were _a lot_ of damned rude concertgoers there) who kept shrieking the lyrics and dancing like buttholes who had no consideration for others. i honestly wanted to strangle this one buttwipe who kept whacking me w/ her AWESOME dance moves.
at least i was taller than everybody standing in front of me for once. doubt that'll ever happen at a show for me ever again. especially radiohead!
don't think i'm going to anymore mraz shows in the states for now. it's turning into the post-radio-single john mayer crowd.
we talked to ian the bassist a bit afterwards and he said they're probably not coming to toronto. oh well.
toca came over to me outside after the show and gave me a hug that literally lifted me about 5 ft off the ground. as always, he remembered that i was the "canadian girl," but he seems to purposely block my name outta his memory.
there seemed to be a lot of canadians that made the trek over for the show. we met these ppl from toronto who are following the show for a few days while they tour the east coast, and this one guy was hilarious. he kept doing impressions of all the cdn stereotypes. "you know, we don't really say 'eh', EH?" and all the "aboot, oot" stuff, etc, etc.
memorable trip. tired. must eat now.
i wanna go to the WS show--cam, do you think you'll be able to score GA? do you want me to try too? i don't know how i'm gonna work out all this traveling back and forth though. if i could just get GA toronto radiohead tix i could frigging sell my montréal ones... :(
