well, i finally managed to get my lazyass to a comp that can post on blogger (aka the comp downstairs and not in my makeshift room since andria is in my own weirdass silver room).
quick, but thorough re-cap of some stuff:
sat -- andria and i head downtown in the morning, we manage to get kickass rush seats for the ballet (something like 8th row!!), have a nice brunch at marché, buy TTC day passes, do a quick yonge st./hmv tour and absorb the craziness of the war protest that was going on that morning, catch the ballet (swan lake--andria thoroughly enjoyed watching the white-tighted prince siegfried--we also had a nice view of the hot dancers who were just watching the perf, including karen kain), head over to queen st. w. where we attempt to get tkts for the stars concert at rotate this! except they're sold-out there already...have a yummy dinner at this little spot called the friendly thai (started off w/ veggie spring rolls and ended w/ vanilla ice cream & fried bananas which also look like spring rolls), hang out at chapters beside the paramount, get ditched by all you stinkingass punks who unwisely choose freaking my apartment over the guvernment, head over to the el mocambo a bit early (around 9:15) to see if we can get some tkts to the stars show. THE STARS SHOW FUCKING KICKED ASS. the newly-renovated elmo looks quite nice, actually. more spiffy. there were major keeners there. all the tables lined across the walls were already taken when we got there. they were giving away cute little stars buttons--i got greedy and took every kind they had--some say "the meek are getting ready," others just say "STARS," one says "death to death" (song title), and my fave is just a simple symbol of a heart (their new album's called
heart).
matt barber played w/ a band this time (first gig w/ the band). they were alright. i enjoyed his grad club perf more. i think he was either nervous or sick or both, 'cause something was off. the 2nd opening band, raising the fawn, were pretty damned impressive. but STARS totally took the cake. they were fucking FANTASTIC. they have catchy-as-hell songs and great charisma. stage presence is so important at a live show. they totally didn't disappoint. torquil campbell, the singer dude, kicks butt. he made eye contact w/ everybody. they also had ppl from another hot band at the moment, broken social scene, play w/ 'em. one of 'em was particularly hot (as in ed o'brien from radiohead perfection), and andria and i both agreed that we'd do him w/out hesitation. he was making all these silly faces at the guitar/co-singer girl, and his little dance moves were hilarious. i love this band. they are coming to k-town on april 5 i think, and i WILL BE THERE. they're playing a 1-hr set for cdn music week, and you should ALL GO SEE 'EM. it's gonna be at the elmo.
during the show, i knew i recognized the guy who was sort of standing in front of me (btw, it was pretty packed in there...older, hipper sort of crowd, it seemed). afterwards, as we were leaving and i was looking longingly at the merch table in the lobby (i was pretty broke by then), he turned around and gave me this expression of recognition and i said, "you go to queen's, right?" and he said, "yeah, you're in my class." "middle english!" "yeah. i'm glad you have good taste in music." "haha. so what'd you think?" "it was great." "yeah, it was amazing." "hey, my name's _______." "hey, i'm christina." [yes. i suck. i tend to forget ppl's names as soon as i've told them my own. but we think it might be barry or dave or something equally as unlike those 2 names.] oh well. i'll see him next monday. it's funny how you see the same ppl at school all the time and never talk to 'em 'til you go to a magical stars show.
sun -- take andria to the east side and pacific mall, b/c she for some inexplicably weird reason wants to go there. i end up buying a cute umbrella for $10 and we of course have the obligatory bubble tea. i also got the
best in show dvd for $10. funnyass movie.
mon-wed -- start the first 1/3 of my practicum at cardinal leger. it's not bad. pretty boring though. i probably won't be teaching actual lessons until i go back at the end of april. does anyone remember mr. welsh? was he a vp at our school before? he looks really, really familiar. so does the other vp, ms. faraone or something?? anyone, i met welsh and he was like, "how would you like to fill out an application? we are in desperate need of math teachers." my associate teacher and i are like, "um, she's/i've still got 2 more years of school left." "oh. well, how 'bout you practice filling some out anyway?" guess i won't have too much trouble finding a job afterwards. yaay. feel my excitement.
i want to defect.
today: andria went around the eaton centre and stuff by herself and bought a shiteload of stuff. then we went to square one when i finished school and bought a shiteload more. i think we've finally converted her from being a west-loving phreak to a toronto, ontario-lover. props to us! i also ran into stephanie kociuba at the mall. she works at...shite...i can't remember the name of the clothing store now, but i bought stuff there. she got so freaking tall!! dammit! she towered over me!! (well, she had heels on, but still.) it's sad to say, but i think she's turned into a bonafide gina. oh boy. i told her to remind jon that he still has my constantines cd. i think i'm gonna go collect it soon. she also told me that katrina is huge now and wobbles around the house a lot. it all changes next month...
then i ran into nora and brian. hadn't seen 'em in a while.
random comments:
i have no real desire to see daredevil. (spiderman kicked ass.) there are a crapload of other things i'm dying to see though. marc, if she came back to the room just to talk to you, then you totally should have asked for her number. you chicken!!! don't mess up if you see her again. that is, unless you're not really interested in her. this friday, i think i'm taking andria to the ROM, but we can do something afterwards. i want to take her to a good club.
so i think that's it.
oh NO--
I FORGOT!!!
i was in the car this morning on the way to school listening to some random radio station and this commercial for chantal kreviazuk's shows comes on, and suddenly the announcer guy's like "...w/ special guest JASON MRAZ"! i flipping freaked out! i thought i was hallucinating or something!! so i finally got home in the afternoon and checked, and he's actually coming! he's playing a ton of cities all over the country opening for her, and he's doing 2 shows at convocation hall in the t-dot, but the best (and flarping weirdest) thing is...THEY'RE PLAYING K-TOWN!! freaking k-town. can you believe it?! i can't. i'm (obviously) going, but it's in april, when i'm _supposed_ to be studying for exams. thank god i don't have any the day after the show or anything. christine, you coming? it's at the grand. he's only opening, but it'll still be cool to see. i might try to review the show.
okay, that's definitely it. i don't think i've ever used that many caps in my life.
